Competition held for tourism development concepts in Musandam

Muscat – Musandam Governor’s office in cooperation with Innovation Oasis Company has organized a competition called Tourithon Musandam with the aim of developing the tourism and municipal sectors in the governorate.

Asilah Mohammed Sultan al Kalbani, Founder of Innovation Oasis, informed that an event was held over two days – Sunday and Monday – at the Atana Khasab Hotel to discuss the future of development in the tourism and municipalities in Musandam. “The most important of these were ideas to develop adventure and ecotourism in the governorate.”

The Musandam Governor’s office on Sunday brought together individuals with creative ideas, young people in particular, and launched Tourithon Musandam, with the aim of developing tourism in Musandam. “Over 60 people submitted their ideas to the competition,” Asilah said.

Musandam is distinguished by its geographical location and diverse terrain, holding immense tourism potential. Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the governorate attracted 200,000 tourists a year. Musandam castles received up to 50,000 visitors a year, while the number of cruise passengers in the governorate reached 129,453.

In another tourism-related development in the governorate, Omran has started setting up the first phase of an adventure center with a 1,500m zip line. It will start at the top of a mountain at an altitude of 250 m. Completion is expected in 2022.

In addition, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism recently confirmed that a visitor center will be established at the archaeological site of Dibba, thanks to funding from the OQ company. The project will include a museum.

“There are proposals to establish sites for environmental camps in several areas of Musandam, including Najd, Shamm, Al Hablain, Ghab Ali and Sahah,” a ministry statement said.
