Goa Tourism Development Corporation Partners with Taj Group to Train Residence Staff | Goa News

PANAJI: Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has partnered with Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) to help train staff at GTDC Residences in the state. IHCL which is part of the Taj Group helped train GTDC staff in day-to-day hotel operations as well as current trends in the hospitality industry.
GTDC said the collaboration is part of an effort to achieve benchmark service standards for tourism in government-owned and operated hotels.

“We are extremely grateful to IHCL for extending its resources and support for improving service standards in GTDC residences,” said GTDC Chairman Ganesh Gaonkar.
GTDC selected staff members based on seniority in the rankings and experience for training. The sessions involved detailed study of the housekeeping function, service, food and beverage production, reception, engineering and horticulture. The Taj Group learning and development team provided GTDC staff with insight into the various techniques and skills in daily hotel operations as well as the correct use of equipment.
“Tourism is the backbone of Goa’s economy with 40% of the population depending directly or indirectly on it. Therefore, it is imperative that we adapt to the changing tourism landscape and match the service expectations of today’s travelers,” said Vincent Ramos, Senior Vice President, IHCL. He said Goa has immense potential to position itself as the best travel and leisure destination in the world, but it would require a “combined and unified effort from all partners and stakeholders” in the industry.
IHCL organized a one-day training program for staff at its Dona Paula complex. This was an interactive session on current trends and potential learnings from the rapidly changing tourism industry.
