Narva Cultural Tourism Development Strategy

In January 2022, the city of Narva developed a cultural tourism strategy and an action plan that will last until 2027. The first action, a workshop involving local actors, took place in February 2022 and a new collaboration with the University of Tallin has emerged.

Narvain Estonia, has a deep story and a rich heritage embrace both culture and nature. However, the main direction of tourism in Narva is cultural. As a member of tourism development strategythe City of Narva organizes a series of workshops involving the local communities in the development of cultural tourism in their region. The main stakeholders involved in these activities, other than members of the local community, are: organizations directly involved in the tourism sectorpartners of a related projectFinnish experts (the Finnish market being one of the main target markets for tourism development), government structures at city and regional level.

The first scheduled workshop took place on February 23, 2022 and many interesting actions were proposed by the participants to be implemented in Narva. However, the main focus of these actions is on the territory of Krenholm: a old industrial area which has the potential to be transformed into a tourist center. Representative of youth organizations will attend future meetings.

Narva Pilot has attracted a consulting firm from Tallinn to assist in the development of Narva’s cultural tourism strategy and action plan. A close collaboration with Tallinn University is part of the development strategy and the university is also working on the implementation of a project to foster the development of cultural tourism: SQUARE.

Narva’s tourism development strategy and the activities implemented aim to find innovative solutions which can be shared with other TExTOUR pilots to grow together.
