STB Solicits Proposals for Integrated Tourism Development in Jurong Lake District

SINGAPORE – Authorities are seeking proposals to develop and operate an integrated tourism development in the Jurong Lake District.

In a statement on Tuesday March 15, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said it expects the new Lifestyle and Tourism Center to feature high-quality accommodation as well as a mix attractions, retail, dining and entertainment.

The development should emphasize technology, “edutainment” and sustainability, STB added.

It is also expected to complement existing nearby attractions such as Lake Jurong Gardens and the new Science Center, as well as be well integrated into the wider Lake Jurong District through a network of pedestrian streets and public spaces. well-designed, the council said. .

In 2019, STB had announced plans for the development of a 6.8 ha site next to Lake Jurong to become a lifestyle and tourism hub in the 410 ha Lake Jurong district – the largest district Singapore business outside the central business district.

The Lake Jurong district will be at the center of development over the next two decades, with the government set to prioritize the sale of sites in the district.

Over the next 30 years, more than 120 ha of land in the region will be available for development.

When fully developed, the district will provide more than 100,000 new jobs and 20,000 new homes, the STB said, adding that the site will be served by four major rail lines by the early 2030s – the north- south, east-west, Jurong area and Inter-island lines.

The land reserved for tourism development is located at the intersection of Boon Lay Way and Jurong Town Hall Road, next to the Chinese Garden MRT station and the future Science Center, which will leave its current premises approximately 1 km from the mid-2020s . .

STB’s marketing materials indicate that the target opening date for the new tourism development is mid-2028.

The tender will be open for seven months and will close on October 18.

Companies that expressed interest in submitting proposals for the site in an earlier exercise in 2019 will also be invited to participate, the STB said.

The development will have a maximum gross floor area of ​​84,000 sqm, similar to the gross floor area of ​​the Funan integrated development.

By comparison, Resorts World Sentosa has about four times the gross floor area and Marina Bay Sands almost seven times.

The Jurong development will include a minimum of 35,000m² of attraction space, a minimum of 21,000m² of hotel space and a maximum of 19,000m² of retail space. It will have approximately 350 hotel rooms.
